Welcome to Windstock.net

what day is it?!

Whoop! Woo Hoo!!!

This is a day of test. And retest.

All the web pages, database tables and all the pictures have to be packed carefully in sturdy boxes, taped up and clearly labeled. Cases need to be rolled, amps must be lifted.

It all gets trucked over to the new cloud where it is just a matter of placing everything in its place and checking it twice. Then just a click of the mouse and the old shared hosting account disappears and all of its little bits loose their charge. Zeroes eventually prevail.

Today windstock finally exists in its new virtual home. It may sound like a lot of work but it just sounds like fun to me. Now we have an entire linux system to do with what we will.

It is a complete running operating system that has the capacity, speed and performance you would expect from a real server only it's not really real.

It is virtually real, but not really real.

By that I mean it doesn't have its own computer case, its own cpu, its own disk drive. All of the normal componets of a computer server are actually being simulated inside another operating system which is most likely an actual computer physically located in a computer farm somewhere. Probably at an undisclosed location. They call it the cloud, but it is actually a farm of virtual clouds, er servers.

That computer runs many virtual server environments all on one physical computer all at the same time. So we share a large server with other virtual server sites but it feels like we have the whole computer to ourselves.

I am having a ball with the linux system. I started programming UNIX systems back in 1982. yep. The internet was born on UNIX. It's good stuff.

Ok, enough tech talk, it's time to fly some kites!
